About the Dodge Neon
Call it a Plymouth or call it a Dodge, the Neon sedan was well-loved during its production run from 1993 until 2005. At that point, the larger Dodge Caliber took over, leaving the Neon to be a relic of a time when the Chrysler corporation had one of the most powerful small sedans on the market.
When it was first sold, the Neon competed against the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Chevy Cobalt, and Nissan Sentra, among other popular small sedans. The Neon stood out, though, because of its exceptional stock horsepower, ranging from 132 to 150 horses under the hood.
Buyers also appreciated the range of bright colors that the Neon came in, although the buzz created by these colors didn’t translate to sales since later Neons only came in conventional colors.
Chrysler understood the Neon’s potential as a compact sports car. At the end of its two generations of development, Neons could be found with up to 230 horsepower, rear spoilers, and air scoops.
