About the Kia Niro

First manufactured in 2016 for the 2017 model year, the Kia Niro is one of the newest additions to the Kia lineup. One of Kia’s only hybrid-exclusive vehicles, the Niro allows buyers to achieve impressive fuel mileage of up to 53 miles per gallon.

The second generation Niro launched in 2021. Seeking to build on its environmental successes, the newest Niro makes use of recycled materials, water-based paints, and other environmentally friendly materials to help minimize its environmental footprint. Additionally, the second-generation Niro is also now available as an electric-only model, allowing drivers to reduce their emissions even further.

In terms of size, the Kia Niro is considered a compact crossover SUV. This puts it in the same category as the Honda HR-V, Toyota RAV4, Chevrolet Trax, and Hyundai Tucson. However, because of its low-emission engine, a closer competitor to the Kia Niro might be the Toyota Prius or Prius C.

Compared to its gasoline-only counterparts, the Niro gets up to twice the fuel economy. Thanks to its redesign, the Niro beats the Prius in terms of passenger and cargo space.

In addition to being environmentally conscious, the Kia Niro is a very safe vehicle to drive. It received all “Good” ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in its various crash tests. On top of that, its standard Lane Departure Warning System, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Detection can help you avoid a crash in the first place.

If you’re in the market for a solid SUV that can save you a lot at the pump, look no further than the Kia Niro.
