About the Lincoln MKZ

The Lincoln MKZ, originally introduced as the Lincoln Zephyr in the 2006 model year as a mid-size luxury sedan from Ford’s luxury division. It signaled Lincoln’s commitment to revitalize its brand with a focus on more modern and sophisticated vehicles.

The Zephyr name was short-lived, however, as it was rebranded as the MKZ in 2007, coinciding with the introduction of a more powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Over the years, the MKZ received several updates, including a second-generation redesign in 2013 that introduced a sleeker look and the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid variant. This move positioned the MKZ alongside luxury hybrid competitors like the Lexus ES Hybrid.

Another competitor was the Acura TL, which was known for its sporty performance and technological advancements. Additionally, the Cadillac CTS was a key rival, offering a balanced mix of luxury and driver engagement. These vehicles were among the top choices for consumers looking for premium sedans during the time the MKZ was available.

Production of the Lincoln MKZ came to an end after the 2020 model year as Lincoln, like many automakers, shifted its focus towards the growing demand for SUVs and crossovers. The MKZ’s departure marked the end of an era for Lincoln sedans, as the brand moved to capitalize on the popularity of larger, more versatile vehicles.

Despite its discontinuation, the MKZ remains a notable part of Lincoln’s history as a vehicle that helped redefine the company’s image and demonstrated its capability to compete in the luxury automotive space.
