About the Audi Q3
Audi launched the Q3 globally in 2011 as its entry into the compact luxury crossover segment, though American buyers had to wait until 2014 before it arrived stateside. Built on the PQ35 platform shared with the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3, and Škoda Yeti, the first-generation Q3 gave Audi a competitor to the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. A facelift arrived for 2015 with a revised grille, enlarged air vents, and updated LED lighting signatures.
The second generation debuted in 2018 and reached U.S. dealers as a 2019 model. This version grew substantially larger and featured improved interior quality along with Audi’s MMI touch response infotainment system.
American models came exclusively with quattro all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The redesign brought a more aggressive stance with muscular wheel arches, a prominent shoulder line connecting the headlights to taillights, and Audi’s signature Singleframe grille. Split-folding rear seats that slide and recline added versatility for both passengers and cargo.
For 2025, Audi simplified the U.S. lineup by eliminating the Q3 40 trim, leaving only the Q3 45 S Line with its 228-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic. Standard features now include heated leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, and adaptive cruise control.
A completely redesigned third-generation Q3 was unveiled in mid-2025 and will arrive in American showrooms as a 2026 model. The new design takes cues from the recently overhauled Q5, featuring split headlights with narrow LED running lights positioned above the main lighting units. Inside, an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster pairs with a 12.8-inch touchscreen angled toward the driver.
The Q3 ranked as Audi’s second-bestselling model in the United States recently, trailing only the Q5. Competitors include the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, MINI Countryman, Lexus NX, Cadillac XT4, and Volvo XC40.
