About the Volvo V60

Volvo introduced the V60 in autumn 2010 as a compact luxury wagon derived from the S60 sedan. The first generation built on the brand’s long-standing reputation for safety-focused, practical estate cars paired with clean Scandinavian design. It was offered with a wide range of engines, including turbocharged four-cylinders and available six-cylinder power in certain markets.

A performance-focused Polestar-tuned version later joined the lineup, helping the V60 compete with premium wagons such as the BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4 Avant. Volvo also introduced a plug-in hybrid V60 early in the model’s life cycle, making it one of the earlier luxury wagons to offer electrification. A facelift for the 2014 model year updated exterior styling and added special editions, including the Ocean Race variant.

The second-generation V60 debuted in 2018 on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture platform, shared with the S60 sedan, XC60 crossover, and larger 90-series models. This generation introduced more modern Scandinavian styling highlighted by “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, a cleaner and more premium interior, and a full suite of advanced safety technologies.

Volvo also expanded the lineup with the V60 Cross Country, featuring increased ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive, and rugged exterior trim, positioning it as an alternative to compact luxury SUVs while retaining traditional wagon proportions.

Over time, Volvo streamlined the U.S. market offering, and by the early 2020s availability focused primarily on the Cross Country variant with a turbocharged 2.0-liter mild-hybrid four-cylinder producing 247 horsepower.

A high-performance V60 Polestar Engineered variant was offered for a limited time, combining a turbocharged and supercharged plug-in hybrid powertrain with total output reaching up to 455 horsepower in later versions. This model delivered strong acceleration along with an EPA-estimated electric driving range of about 41 miles.

Due to limited demand and Volvo’s broader shift toward SUVs and electrified crossovers, the V60 Polestar Engineered was discontinued in the U.S. earlier in the decade.

For the 2025 and 2026 model years, the V60 lineup in the United States consists exclusively of the V60 Cross Country, offered in Plus and Ultra trims. It competes most directly with wagons such as the Audi A4 Allroad and, at a higher price point, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain.

Built in Belgium, the V60 remains one of the few luxury wagons still available in the American market, appealing to buyers who value European driving character and cargo versatility without moving to a traditional SUV.
