About the Toyota Supra
The Toyota Supra stands as one of Japan’s most iconic sports cars, with roots dating back to 1978. Initially developed as a longer, wider variant of the Celica (called the Celica Supra), it evolved into its own distinct model by 1986 with the introduction of the A70 third generation.
The fourth-generation A80 Supra, produced from 1993 to 2002, achieved legendary status thanks to its twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE engine and appearance in “The Fast and the Furious” film franchise.
After a 17-year hiatus, Toyota revived the Supra in 2019 with the fifth-generation GR Supra. This comeback resulted from a partnership with BMW, sharing components with the Z4 roadster. The new Supra launched with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine, later adding a 2.0-liter four-cylinder option.
Throughout its history, the Supra competed against sports cars like the Nissan 300ZX/370Z, Mitsubishi 3000GT, and Mazda RX-7. Contemporary rivals include the Porsche Cayman, BMW M2, and Chevrolet Corvette.
The Supra earned fame for its outstanding balance of comfort, performance, and reliability. Toyota built each generation with progressively more powerful engines and advanced technology. The Supra’s dedicated following continues to prize these vehicles for their modification potential and enduring appeal.
