About the Toyota Grand Highlander
The Toyota Grand Highlander is a mid-size three-row crossover SUV introduced for the North American market in February 2023, ahead of the Chicago Auto Show. Toyota positioned it as a larger alternative to the standard Highlander for families needing more interior space without stepping up to the truck-based Sequoia.
While it shares the GA-K platform with the regular Highlander, the Grand Highlander is longer, taller, and wider, with distinct exterior and interior styling. It was developed with North American buyers in mind and is assembled in Princeton, Indiana. Competitors at launch included the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Chevrolet Traverse, and Ford Explorer.
Three powertrain options are offered: a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder producing 265 horsepower, a 2.5-liter hybrid with 245 combined horsepower, and a Hybrid MAX variant that pairs the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with electric motors for a combined 362 horsepower.
The Grand Highlander can be configured as a seven- or eight-passenger vehicle depending on trim and seating configuration, with generous room in the first two rows and a more accommodating third row than the standard Highlander. The Lexus TX serves as the luxury counterpart to the Grand Highlander, sharing the same GA-K platform and a similar North American market focus.
The Grand Highlander launched for the 2024 model year in XLE, Limited, and Platinum grades, with Hybrid MAX available on upper trims. An entry-level LE grade joined the lineup for the 2025 model year, expanding accessibility. The 2026 model year continues with multiple grades and three powertrain choices, maintaining the formula that helped it establish a strong position in the competitive three-row SUV segment.
