About the Lexus UX

The Lexus UX was introduced at the March 2018 Geneva Motor Show as the smallest crossover in Lexus’s lineup at the time. It was also the first Lexus model built on the GA-C platform, a lightweight architecture shared with models such as the Toyota C-HR.

US sales began for the 2019 model year, giving urban buyers a more compact, fuel-efficient alternative to the NX without sacrificing the brand’s signature refinement. At launch in the US, the UX was offered as the UX 200, powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder, alongside the hybrid UX 250h variant. Primary competitors included the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The UX received incremental updates through its early years. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert became standard across all trims for the 2021 model year. For 2023, the non-hybrid UX 200 was discontinued in the US, leaving the hybrid UX 250h as the sole powertrain option. The shift reflected Lexus’s broader push toward electrification across its model range.

For 2025, the UX 250h was replaced by the new UX 300h, which adopted Lexus’s fifth-generation hybrid system, pairing a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with updated motor-generators through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Output increased compared with the prior UX 250h, and both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations continued to be offered.

For the 2026 model year, the UX continues as Lexus’s most affordable model in the US lineup, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster standard on most trims and minor interior and feature adjustments depending on grade.

Since 2024, the UX sits between the smaller LBX (sold in select global markets) and the larger NX in Lexus’s SUV hierarchy. All current US models are hybrid-only, available in front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive configurations across multiple trim levels.
