About the Lexus NX
Lexus expanded its crossover lineup in 2014 when it introduced the NX as a compact luxury SUV aimed at the urban environment, smaller and more fuel-efficient than the RX, yet offering a similar level of comfort and refinement. The first-generation NX was revealed at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in April 2014, with US sales beginning later that year.
It launched in the US as the NX 200t, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, alongside a hybrid NX 300h variant. Early competitors included the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLK (later replaced by the GLC).
A mid-cycle facelift arrived for the 2018 model year, revealed in 2017, revising the front bumper, grille, headlamps, taillights, and interior details, while the NX 200t was renamed the NX 300 to align with Lexus’s broader naming strategy.
The second generation arrived in June 2021 as a completely new vehicle for the 2022 model year, built on the GA-K platform shared with models such as the Toyota RAV4 and Venza, with a slightly longer wheelbase and expanded exterior dimensions. For 2022, the base engine became a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter producing 203 horsepower paired with an eight-speed automatic (NX 250), while a turbocharged 2.4-liter with 275 horsepower (NX 350) joined as an option, along with a 239-horsepower hybrid (NX 350h).
This generation also introduced a plug-in hybrid variant, the NX 450h+, pairing a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors for a combined 302 horsepower and an EPA-estimated electric range of around 37 miles at launch. The current competitive set includes the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, and Acura RDX.
For the 2026 model year, Lexus made front-wheel drive available on the NX 350h in addition to all-wheel drive. The F Sport Handling grade became available on hybrid models, expanding its availability across more of the lineup. The NX remains one of Lexus’s strongest sellers, with the current generation still relatively recent and a full redesign not yet announced.
