About the Jeep Renegade
The Jeep Renegade broke new ground when it debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show as the brand’s first subcompact crossover SUV and the first Jeep model manufactured entirely outside North America. Built at Fiat Chrysler’s Melfi plant in Italy on the company’s Small Wide 4×4 platform, the Renegade launched for the 2015 model year in the United States.
Its boxy, upright design paid homage to the classic Willys Jeep while incorporating modern styling cues such as round headlamps and X-shaped taillights inspired by military jerrycans. Buyers considering the Renegade often cross-shopped the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Nissan Kicks, and Chevrolet Trailblazer in the competitive subcompact SUV segment.
Available in multiple trims including Sport, Latitude, Altitude, Limited, and the off-road-oriented Trailhawk, the Renegade offered both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations for most of its production. The Trailhawk variant earned Jeep’s Trail Rated badge thanks to its Active Drive Low 4×4 system, increased ground clearance, skid plates, and Selec-Terrain traction management with a dedicated Rock mode.
Early models featured a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter engine, though the 2.4-liter unit was gradually phased out in favor of the more efficient 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder introduced in 2019. The Renegade’s available My Sky removable roof panels provided open-air driving reminiscent of the Wrangler experience in a more compact, urban-friendly package.
Over its production run, the Renegade sold close to two million units globally, achieving particular success in European and South American markets.
For 2023, Jeep simplified the U.S. lineup by discontinuing front-wheel-drive variants and making all-wheel drive standard across all trims. Power came exclusively from the 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Production for North America concluded after the 2023 model year amid declining demand for subcompact SUVs. Stellantis has confirmed that a next-generation Jeep Renegade is in development, expected to launch around 2027 with both internal combustion and fully electric versions built in North America.
