About the Ford Transit
The Ford Transit has been a commercial vehicle staple in Europe since 1965, but American buyers had to wait until 2014 for its debut as a 2015 model. For decades, Ford sold the E-Series (Econoline) in North America while the Transit dominated European markets.
The E-Series served businesses well but was showing its age by the 2010s, with outdated mechanicals and poor fuel economy. Ford finally brought the Transit stateside for the 2015 model year, replacing most E-Series configurations, though Ford continues to produce cutaway and stripped chassis versions of the E-Series for commercial use.
