About the Ford F-250

The Ford F-250 represents the entry point into Ford’s legendary Super Duty lineup, a family of heavy-duty trucks built for serious work.

Ford introduced the Super Duty line in 1999 as a separate platform from the F-150, recognizing that commercial and heavy-duty customers needed capabilities beyond what a half-ton truck could provide. The F-250 quickly established itself as the go-to choice for contractors, farmers, and anyone requiring substantial towing and payload capacity.

Throughout its history, the F-250 has competed directly with the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, Ram 2500, and GMC Sierra 2500HD. These three-quarter-ton trucks battle constantly for supremacy in the commercial and recreational towing markets. Each manufacturer has loyal followers, but the F-250 has consistently maintained strong sales thanks to its reputation for reliability, capability, and continuous innovation.

The current fifth-generation Super Duty debuted for the 2023 model year, bringing substantial improvements over its predecessor. Ford redesigned nearly everything, starting with a fully boxed high-strength steel frame featuring multiple cross-members for improved rigidity and strength.

The chassis can now accommodate a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) exceeding 43,000 pounds on certain configurations (numbers that place it in a different league than the F-150).

Engine options for 2025 include a 6.8-liter V8 gasoline engine, a 7.3-liter “Godzilla” V8, and two versions of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel. The high-output diesel remains the popular choice for towing, generating 500 horsepower and an astounding 1,200 lb-ft of torque.

These figures translate to a maximum conventional towing capacity of 25,000 pounds when properly equipped. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck ratings climb even higher, reaching up to 30,000 pounds on select configurations.

The cabin received significant attention as well. A 12-inch digital instrument cluster and available 12-inch center touchscreen bring modern technology to the work truck environment, while an optional 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, Max Recline seats, and advanced driver-assistance features elevate comfort and safety.

Ford maintained the Super Duty’s workhorse character while adding luxury and convenience to higher trims. The F-250 bridges the gap between the F-150 and F-350 perfectly, offering heavy-duty capability without requiring a commercial driver’s license for most configurations.
