About the Cadillac XT5
The Cadillac XT5 arrived for the 2017 model year as the successor to the well-regarded SRX, bringing fresh styling and improved efficiency to Cadillac’s compact luxury crossover lineup. Built on GM’s C1XX platform at the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, the XT5 marked Cadillac’s transition to a new naming convention for its crossover models.
From launch, it competed directly against the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Lexus RX350, and Lincoln Nautilus in one of the industry’s most competitive segments.
The first generation received a noteworthy refresh for 2020. Cadillac updated the exterior with revised LED headlights featuring IntelliBeam technology and a refreshed front fascia. Interior improvements included upgraded materials and an enhanced infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The refresh also brought a restructured trim lineup with Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport variants replacing the previous configuration.
Power comes from two engine options. The base 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, identified by a 350T badge on the liftgate. Premium Luxury and Sport trims can be equipped with a 3.6L V6 generating 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, marked with a 400 badge.
Both engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional.
After nearly a decade in production, the current XT5 shows its age against newer rivals. While China received an all-new second-generation model in 2024, North American buyers continue receiving the first-generation version through at least 2026. Recent changes for 2025 included discontinuation of the Platinum Package and night vision system.
However, GM announced in August 2025 that a next-generation XT5 will launch in North America during the second half of 2027, likely arriving as a 2028 model year vehicle powered by gasoline engines rather than electric propulsion.
