About the Cadillac SRX
The Cadillac SRX debuted in 2004 as Cadillac’s first entry into the midsize luxury crossover market. The first generation (2004-2009) was built on GM’s Sigma platform with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations. The initial SRX featured a wagon-like profile with three rows of seating on some models and came powered by either a 3.6-liter V6 or a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine.
Cadillac completely redesigned the SRX for its second generation in 2010. The new model was smaller and adopted a more conventional crossover shape. This transformation matched changing consumer preferences.
The second-gen SRX switched to front-wheel drive architecture with optional all-wheel drive. A 3.0-liter V6 served as the standard engine at launch, later replaced by a more potent 3.6-liter V6.
Shoppers considering an SRX likely cross-shopped the Lexus RX, BMW X3, and Audi Q5. The Lincoln MKX represented a domestic alternative in this segment. The SRX set itself apart with bold American styling and competitive pricing.
The interior featured premium materials including hand-cut-and-sewn coverings on the instrument panel. CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment arrived in later model years. Safety tech expanded throughout production. Cargo capacity remained adequate despite the vehicle’s stylish sloping rear.
Production of the SRX ended after the 2016 model year. Cadillac replaced it with the XT5, which continues the brand’s presence in the midsize luxury crossover category today.
