About the Audi TTS
The Audi TTS emerged as the performance-enhanced variant of the iconic TT sports car, a model that redefined compact sports car design when it debuted in 1998. Based on designer J Mays and Freeman Thomas’s revolutionary concept from the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show, the TT’s Bauhaus-inspired styling and clean, purposeful lines made it an instant classic.
The TTS nameplate first appeared during the second generation in 2008, positioned between the standard TT and the flagship TT RS. Buyers cross-shopping the TTS often considered the BMW M240i, Porsche 718 Cayman, and Mercedes-AMG SLC as alternatives in the premium compact sports car segment.
The second-generation TTS brought significant performance upgrades with its 272-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and introduced Audi’s magnetic ride adaptive suspension technology. This generation ran from 2009 through 2014 and featured the brand’s evolving Singleframe grille design and sharper body lines.
The quattro all-wheel-drive system provided year-round traction that distinguished the TTS from many rear-drive rivals, making it both a capable daily driver and a rewarding weekend machine.
The third and final generation TTS debuted for the 2015 model year, modernizing the TT’s silhouette while maintaining its design heritage. Power increased to 306 horsepower, enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in about 4.5 seconds with the standard seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
Inside, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster made its first appearance, replacing traditional gauges with a configurable 12.3-inch display. Production of the entire TT lineup, including the TTS, concluded in November 2023 after 25 years and more than 662,000 units built across three generations.
While Audi has confirmed plans for an electric successor inspired by the TT’s spirit, the gasoline-powered TTS stands as the final chapter of one of the automotive world’s most iconic compact sports cars.
