About the Audi S7
Audi debuted the S7 at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show as the performance-oriented variant of its sleek A7 Sportback. U.S. deliveries began for the 2013 model year. Built on the same platform as the A6 sedan but wearing a dramatically sloped fastback roofline, the S7 carved out space between the standard A7 and the fire-breathing RS7.
Power came from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive handled the power. For 2016, Audi bumped output to 450 horsepower alongside exterior styling tweaks and upgraded interior tech.
The second-generation S7 arrived for the 2020 model year riding on a redesigned A7 platform introduced in 2018. Perhaps the biggest change sat under the hood: Audi swapped the V8 for a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 making 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.
The new powerplant incorporated a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an electric compressor that eliminated turbo lag at low engine speeds. An eight-speed automatic replaced the dual-clutch gearbox from before. Despite losing two cylinders, the new S7 sprints to 60 mph in about 4.1 seconds.
A mid-cycle refresh landed for the 2024 model year. Updates included restyled front and rear bumpers, revised grille inserts, and new wheel designs. The 2025 model carries forward with minimal changes beyond standard Homelink buttons in the rearview mirror and an extended Audi Connect trial period.
A next-generation A7 family is expected within the coming years as Audi reshapes its lineup around electrification. Those shopping the S7 typically compare it against the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, Mercedes-AMG GT 53, and Porsche Panamera.
