About the Audi A4

The Audi A4 is a “compact executive” automobile available in the US since the 1996 model year. The first generation of the A4 was the successor of the Audi 80. In five generations, the A4 has been alternately based on Volkswagen’s Group B and Group MLB platforms.

The A4 configuration has a front-mounted engine with an automatic transmission. Prior to 2019, it was available with a manual transmission as well. In both cases, torque is transferred to the front wheels but All-wheel drive is available with the Quattro driveline option (what most Audis on the road today have).
