About the Acura RSX
Introduced to the US market in 2001 as a 2002 model, the Acura RSX was a manifestation of Acura’s philosophy of providing performance-oriented luxury vehicles.
It succeeded the Acura Integra, a car that had carved out a niche as a reliable and sporty compact coupe. The RSX was designed to continue this legacy, offering a blend of performance, style, and luxury that appealed to young enthusiasts.
The RSX was offered in two main trims: the base model and the more performance-focused Type-S. The latter quickly gained acclaim for its high-revving 2.0-liter K20A2 engine, which initially produced 200 horsepower and was later bumped to 210 horsepower in the 2005-2006 models.
This engine, combined with a precise 6-speed manual transmission and a well-tuned suspension, made the RSX Type-S a favorite among driving enthusiasts.
Throughout its production run, the RSX was praised for its high-quality interior, sporty design, and reliable performance. It received a facelift in 2005 that included revised front and rear styling, improved suspension, and a boost in power for the Type-S. Despite its popularity, Acura decided to discontinue the RSX after the 2006 model year, as the brand shifted its focus towards larger, more luxurious models.
When considering the Acura RSX, buyers at the time might have also looked at competitors such as the BMW 3 Series Coupe, offering German engineering and prestige, the Audi TT with its distinctive styling and Quattro all-wheel-drive system, and the Infiniti G35 Coupe, which provided a mix of performance and luxury.
The RSX stood out in this competitive set for its combination of affordability, reliability, and a strong performance pedigree that resonated with a younger demographic.
